2009 FIELD WORK

The NCSWMA was busy in 2009!  We surveyed 32 properties totaling 14,708 acres for invasive plants.  We mapped over 1,600 occurrences of 34 different invasive plants on these properties and treated over 350 occurrences!

2009 BREAKDOWN
 
  • 52% of occurrences mapped were Chinese Privet and Japanese honeysuckle.
 
  • 20% of occurrences mapped were “wildlife-related” (planted for food or cover):
    • Chinese Lespedeza (Lespedeza cuneata) = 6.6%
    • Shrubby Lespedeza (Lespedeza bicolor) = 4.7%
    • Multiflora Rose (Rosa multiflora) = 4.7%
    • Weeping Lovegrass (Eragrostis curvula) = 4.3%
 
  • Remaining 28% of occurrences mapped were considered Early Detection and Rapid Response (EDRR) species, the most common of which were:
    • Chinaberry (Melia azedarach) = 7.6%
    • Chinese Wisteria (Wisteria sinensis) = 3.7%
    • Mimosa (Albizia julibrissin) = 3.3%
