Invasive Plant Management in the North Carolina Sandhills

Nandina domestica - sacred or heavenly bamboo
This plant is not a bamboo at all despite it's common name,  but a member of the Berberidaceae family.  It can grow to 2 meters tall with evergreen bi- to tri-pinnately compund leaves with bright red-berries that persist through the winter.   In the Southeast it is also refered to as Nandina megalomania or 'Hilter' bamboo for it's aggressive and invasive nature.
