Melia azedarach - chinaberry
Small tree, with a
spreading crown. Chinaberry is somewhat shade tolerant, it's also
adapted to a variety of soil moisture conditions. It is found along
fence lines and disturbed habitats. Chinaberry is considered
allelopathic because its leaf litter can increase nitrogen and pH
levels in acidic soils. Its rapid growth can invade disturbed and
relatively undisturbed habitats where is displaces and shades out
native vegetation. Chinabery infestations should be controlled during
the early stages of establishment when the potential for successful
management is high. The success of controlling large-scale infestations
is probably low.
