Invasive Plant Management in the North Carolina Sandhills

Ipomoea spp. - morning glory
Twining and climbing annual vine. It can form dense mats shading out understory vegetation. It can also climb trees, inhibiting photosynthesis, and even breaking off branches. Morning-glory infestations should be treated in the spring before they produce seed. Vines should be cut close to the ground and treated with direct herbicide application, or a foliar spray alone can be used. Infested sites should be continuously monitored, and regrowth treated.
