Twining perennial
vine capable of reaching approximately 4 m high. Chinese yam's
aggressive growth overwhelms other vegetation by forming a thick mat
shading out other plants. It can also climb into trees, becoming heavy
enough to break small branches. The range of Chinese yam is limited,
making it essential that new infestations be treated quickly to prevent
it from becoming widespread. Hand pulling can control small
infestations. Larger infestations should be treated with an integrated
management approach; manual and mechanical methods with herbicide
application in late summer or early fall. All procedures will need to
be repeated with continual monitoring.
