Invasive Plant Control in the North Carolina Sandhills

Albizia julibrissin - mimosa, silk tree
A prostrate perennial that develops into a small, low branching tree with a flat top that may reach 40 feet in height. Mimosa is a strong competitor to native trees and shrubs in open areas or forest edges. Dense stands of mimosa severely reduce the sunlight and nutrients available for other plants. Hand pull and discard all saplings appropriately. Small trees that cannot be pulled should be treated with a basal bark herbicide application. Large trees can be treated with a cut stump herbicide application, or with stem injections.
